How to Make a White Background Transparent in MS Paint

If you have ever used MS Paint before, then you probably know that you cannot use the Transparent Selection option to give your images a transparent background. Therefore, you will need a proper hack.

Sometimes you need a transparent background in your images because you want to stack them on top of each other. What’s more, most designs require this feature.

However, you can use MS Paint to create a transparent background, but you cannot save the image that way. It only works on white background. That disappoints many users, which is why there’s a convenient hack you can use.

How to Use the Transparent Selection Option in MS Paint

  1. Navigate to the Select tool in MS Paint (it’s under the Image group). Select Transparent Selection (use the small arrow to open the drop-down menu).
  2. Now you will have to select a particular part of the image. Also, you have to select a part of the white background as well.
  3. Copy/Paste what you’ve selected to a separate part of the image.

The white part will become transparent. Unfortunately, when you save it, it will lose that feature.

There is a nice hack you can use to solve this issue. But, you will have to use MS PowerPoint as well. If you don’t have it installed, do that before following the steps below.

  1. Open MS PowerPoint and insert the picture you want to use. Make sure to select it as well.
  2. Navigate to Picture Tools > Adjust Group and left-click on the Color.
  3. There you can click on Set Transparent Color (in the drop-down menu). You will get a specific tool to use. All you have to do is click on the color you wish to eliminate from your image.MSPaint Transparent Background
  4. You will see the result at once. Then, all that’s left to do is to right-click the image and select Save as picture. That will open a dialogue box.
  5. Pick PNG in Save as type.

Warning: If the background color appears somewhere else in the image, it will become transparent in those areas as well.

And there you have it. Your image now has a transparent background.
